PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Home Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan on Thursday chaired a joint consultative workshop on developing a comprehensive sectoral road map for improving the rule of law.
This workshop was organised by European Union funded Citizens Justice and Peace Programme in KP. Representatives from Home and Tribal Affairs Department, KP Police, Prosecution, Prisons, Representatives and Probation, and Provincial Public Safety Commission attended the event. The purpose of the workshop was to conduct a strategic review of rule of law policy objectives, departmental priorities and provide a framework to develop and implement the road map.
Home and Tribal Affairs Department tasked Citizens Justice and Peace Programme (CJPP) to provide technical assistance and support in identifying attached departments priorities in drafting a rule of law sectoral road map, which can serve as a strategy for overall KP.
While speaking on the occasion, Shakeel Qadir Khan said, “significant work has already been done in making the policing more community orientated and responsive and improving the prosecutions services, but more is needed to be done to provide relief to the common man.”
Citizens Justice and Peace Programme is a three year EU-funded programme, implemented in collaboration with the government of KP, to improve Home and Tribal Affairs’ Department and Police’s responsiveness to citizen’s security and justice needs by strengthening institutional capacity, inter-departmental coordination and civil society engagement.
