The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Sindh police on Wednesday claimed to have made some headway in the investigations into the murder of former MQM lawmaker Ali Raza Abidi and said that “one of the murder weapons had also been used in another killing in Liaquatabad recently”.
According to CTD officer Raja Umar Khattab, two 30 bore pistols were used in Abidi’s murder. Six shots were fired from one weapon, while a single shot from another, he said. Investigators collected seven spent cartridges from the crime scene which were sent to the police forensic laboratory, the official added. The laboratory’s report received by the investigators mentioned that the 30 bore pistol from which six shots were fired was previously used in the murder of 23-year-old Ihtisham in Liaquatabad on December 10.
Security guard of Abidi’s house taken into custody
Police on Wednesday arrested a security guard of slain former MNA Ali Raza Abidi’s residence in connection with murder of the leader for investigation, Senior Superintendent (SSP) of district South Karachi, Syed Pir Muhammad Shah said.
Speaking to media men, the SSP South informed that the politician was attacked in front of his residence on Tuesday night by two assailants, meanwhile, the security guard at the gate rushed inside as the assailant opened fire at Abidi. The security guard belongs to Dera Ghazi Khan and was hired 2-3 months ago for the job, the SSP continued.
