ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice (CJ) Saqib Nisar on Thursday clarified that he had not labelled Prime Minister (PM) Shahid Khaqan Abbassi as a “faryadi”.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Supreme Court (SC) Shahid Hussain Kamboyo issued a clarification stating that projecting CJ’s words in the wrong way was immoral and nasty. He said that the CJ held the premier in high regard as head of the government.
He added that such spiteful claims should be laid to rest.
Earlier, CJ Saqib Nisar, in a conversation with senior lawyer Latif Khosa, remarked that PM had met him at his residence to voice out his grievances. He maintained the stance that as the chief justice it was his duty to listen to a distressed applicant.
CJ said that he would never let his department and the lawyers down.
Former PM Nawaz Sharif opposed the idea of CJ addressing the premier as a ‘Faryadi’ (beggar). He said that he’d discuss the matter with PM so that he could demand explanation from the CJ.
A meeting between Saqib Nisar and PM Abbasi was held on Tuesday to discuss issues pertaining to clean drinking water and garbage disposal.
