GUJRANWALA: The new Gujranwala Police Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sultan Azam Taimori had taken firm steps to control crime in the region, resulting in several dacoit gangs being nabbed by police, it was reported. Police crackdown against illegal arms and narcotics had also been successful and dozens of cases had been registered in recent days.
Besides reducing the crime rate, the RPO had shown keen interest to streamline the traffic system in the region. For this purpose, he paid a visit to the city traffics and issued directions to the chief traffic officer for improvement in the traffic system.
RPO also inaugurated the mobile help unit under which every citizen could avail the services of a motor mechanic on the spot by calling 1915 helpline. Transportation facility for broken-down vehicle would also be made available through this help unit.
The RPO, while addressing a delegation of private schools association, said that law and order in the region would be ensured by adopting community policing and no effort would to protect the lives and property of the citizens.
He said revolutionary measures were being taken to provide best facilities to the public including establishment of a service center, the formation of Dolphin Force, reconstructing of Rescue 15 while steps were being taken for improvement in the traffic system.
With the help of private schools management, police could safeguard the life and property of the citizens better, he said. The RPO said, “We have got together to achieve our targets.”
Answering a question, he said that the police could not do anything without public cooperation. On the occasion, members of the delegation praised the police efforts.
Two dead, two injured: Two died and two injured after a collision between a tractor and donkey cart on Nokhar Road Gujranwala. Boota and Raqia were travelling on a donkey cart when hit be a speeding tractor and died later in the hospital.
Two killed for ‘honour’: Two people who were shot in a feud reportedly over a ‘love marriage’ died in the hospital later. It was reported that the brother of a girl who married 3 years ago in a ‘love marriage’, attacked his sister’s husband, in an apparent case of honour killing.
The gunfire injured 1 each from both sides, including the girl’s brother, both of whom died at the DHQ hospital later. The police made two arrests in the case.
200 kg unhygienic meat seized: A live stock team raided a slaughter house and recovered over 200 kg of unhygienic meat. It was reported that live stock team was tipped of unhygienic meat being supplied through the slaughter house. The live stock team also made arrests and registered a case against the slaughter house owners.
